Illinois Auto Insurance Coverage

The State of Illinois requires all vehicles registered and operated in the state to have the required liability insurance. The required minimum coverage for liability insurance of the state is $20,000 for injury or death of one person per accident, $40,000 for injury or death of two or more people per single accident and $15,000 for property damage. This requirement is for all motor vehicles, which includes buses, vans, RVs and cars. The state has the required liability insurance but vehicle owners are not required to show their proof of insurance before they can register their vehicle in the state. This is different from that of other states which requires the owners to show actual proof of insurance. In Illinois, all the owners have to do is to certify that that the vehicle they are registering will be insured and will remain insured for as long as they are registered in the state.

However, motorists are required to carry their insurance card whenever they are driving in the state. In an event of an accident or traffic stop or violation, they will have to show their insurance card to the officer of the law. The insurance card are issued by the insurance company to their customers.

Illinois Homeowners Insurance Coverage

Generally home insurance in Illinois offers protection from financial loss caused by damage, theft and other perils. For homeowners who have home insurance, the general practice in the state when it comes to claims is through the actual cash value, replacement cost and guaranteed replacement cost. In other words, when the owner claims for his home insurance he is paid either the actual cash value of the home, the replacement cost for his home or the guaranteed replacement cost of his home. The actual cash value pays the owner the replacement cost of the home minus the depreciation. Thus, in case of loss the insurance company shall pay the owner the cost of his home or property at the time of the damage or loss. The replacement cost is similar with the cash value except the insurance company shall pay the homeowner the cost of replacing or building the home based on the home’s materials and construction, within the limit of the policy, at the time of the loss or damage. The guaranteed replacement cost is the same as the replacement cost except the insurance company will pay the amount even if it exceeds the limit of the policy. However the insurance company may limit the amount up to certain percentage of the limit in the policy.

In Illinois, there are several factors which can affect the cost of home insurance or the home insurance premium. Generally these are the type of construction of the home, such as stone, brick, wood and other materials; the proximity to the fire department, the location of the home, your deductible, the type of coverage and the policy, the age of the home, the number of residents in the home, your claim history, your credit history and your discounts.
